Affiliations
The TRENNDZ at University Teaching Hospitals (UTH) works within a collaborative network of academic and clinical partners. Together, we design, deliver, and translate high-quality neurology research to improve patient care across diverse settings.
Primary Institution
The UTH Neurology Department is the home institution for TRENNDZ, providing clinical leadership, specialist expertise, and dedicated research infrastructure. As a hub for multidisciplinary collaboration, the project supports clinical trials, observational studies, and translational neuroscience programmes.
At a glance
- Tertiary referral centre for complex neurological conditions
- Academic teaching hospital with integrated neurology training programmes
- Dedicated neurology research unit with specialist trial coordination
Academic Partners
Our academic partnerships strengthen the scientific foundation of our work, bringing together neurologists, neuroscientists, and methodologists to co-develop and evaluate innovative research programmes across diverse settings.
University of Rochester
The University of Rochester collaborates on multi-centre clinical trials and observational cohorts in epilepsy, movement disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases, providing advanced biostatistical support and trial methodology expertise.
University of Zambia
The University of Zambia partners on population-based studies and hospital-based cohorts in stroke, epilepsy, and CNS infections, contributing regional epidemiology expertise and training in neurology research methods.
University Teaching Hospital (UTH)
The University Teaching Hospital (UTH) serves as the principal clinical site for patient recruitment, implementation research, and health systems innovation, enabling real-world evaluation of new diagnostics, care pathways, and treatments for neurological disease.
Clinical Sites
TRENNDZ operates across multiple clinical sites, enabling multicentre trials and real-world studies that reflect the diversity of patient populations and care environments.
UTH Main Campus Neurology Ward — Comprehensive neurology service with a focus on acute stroke and neurocritical care, serving as the primary recruitment hub for collaborative trials with the University of Rochester, the University of Zambia, and the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) research teams.
City Community Hospital — Outpatient neurology clinics supporting chronic disease management and rehabilitation, providing longitudinal follow-up for community-based studies co-designed with the University of Zambia and implementation projects led by the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) and University of Rochester partners.
Regional Epilepsy Centre — Specialist diagnostic and treatment services for epilepsy and seizure disorders, acting as a key referral site for epilepsy cohorts and intervention trials jointly coordinated with the University of Rochester and the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
Infectious Diseases and Neurology Unit — Integrated care for neuroinfectious diseases and neuroimmunology research, underpinning collaborative studies in CNS infections, HIV-associated neurological disease, and immune-mediated disorders with investigators from the University of Zambia, the University of Rochester, and the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
International Collaborations
Through international collaborations, TRENNDZ contributes to global networks that share expertise, harmonise research standards, and accelerate the development of effective treatments for neurological disorders.
Collaboration themes
- Capacity building for neurology research teams and trial coordination
- Shared protocols and harmonised outcome measures for multicentre studies
- Trainee and early-career researcher exchange across partner institutions
- Secure data sharing to support pooled analyses and meta-research
